The Green Lantern – a review.
Big budget, state of the art effects, 3d viewing…and it sucked as bad as anything I’ve seen this year. While Ryan Reynolds is true to form, bringing his trade mark easy comedic style, the plot, story line and supporting cast left me wanting a lot more.
Blake Lively looks beautiful and very slim and sexy but her acting ability is horrifying and does more to detract from the film than anything else. While she should be Meagan Fox in “Transformers” she reminds me a lot more of Kirsten Dunst in the “Spiderman” debacle. She seems stiff, rigid and completely unlikeable.
But blaming the failure of the film on a totally gorgeous but talentless actress would be completely misguided. The film fails for some classic reasons. A weak plot and story and poor execution are the true culprits here. MichaelBayspends too much time in the “hey I got new powers I have no idea how to use” phase. This is the same issue that plagued the original “Spiderman”.
Staying in line with the “Spiderman” mistakes “The Green Lanterns” focuses a great deal of attention on a predictable and thoroughly boring loving story. Showing a true desperation to garner a female audience, Bay tragically ignores the true strengths of this film which were the incredible action scenes and gigantic specials effects.
Mind you I levy heavy criticism despite being profoundly stoned, which always make everything at least a grade better. I am going to give it a 2 out of 5 on the Spliffster scale and a strong warning not to waste your time (or buzz) on this hot galactic mess.
